How One Teacher Went from Zero to Launching her Brick and Mortar Craft Club in Just 2 Months

Posted on Jun 12, 2025

What stopped Shelley for years became the key to her rapid success.

Shelley had been teaching for 21 years. She'd always loved creating crafts and games—even back in kindergarten, she was organizing activities for her classmates. "I've always kept that creative spirit," she says. "But I've always felt like there's more. I could do something more with kids outside of school."

The problem? Every time she thought about starting her own studio, one thing stopped her cold: building a website.

Watch our interview with Shelley or keep reading below to find out how she overcame this obstacle and opened her craft club doors in just 2 months.

 The Website Wall

"Definitely the biggest challenge is website presence," Shelley explains. She'd tried before. "I created my own website a few years ago and it took months. It's building everything, all the little clicks, adding everything. It was just so overwhelming. And I still didn't feel like it was great."

Sound familiar? That overwhelming feeling kept her dream on hold.

 The Game Changer

Then Shelley discovered the Creative Crafting Club on Instagram. "I was like, this is perfect. I can mesh all the things I love together and open a brick and mortar studio."

But what really sold her wasn't just the curriculum—it was the website solution. "When I saw not only that you guys offer this amazing curriculum, but the ability to have a created website and I just go in and tweak it, that was huge for me. I was like, this is a no brainer."

 Two Months Later

Shelley joined in February. By April, she had:

  • A professional website up and running
  • A physical studio space decorated and ready
  • Email subscribers excited for classes
  • Her first event completed
  • Paid classes starting in May

"People I don't even know have become email subscribers. They're telling me, 'We are so excited. We can't wait. We've needed something like this for our kids.'"

The Support That Made It Possible

"Anytime I've had a question on my website, that online chat—they are amazing. They are right there. They solve it."

Plus the community: "You can usually go find answers in the group or somebody will answer for you. I just felt like it's possible now."

 Looking Forward

Shelley still teaches online for a charter school and plans to run her studio evenings and weekends. "Now I know what I'm going to do when I retire. I'm going to continue the studio and continue to serve the community."

 Her Advice

"Don't hesitate. From 2 months ago, I went from applying for my business license to having a physical studio ready to open and getting traffic online with people signing up for my emails."

The thing that stopped Shelley for years became the foundation of her success. That website she couldn't face building? It's now bringing her customers faster than she ever imagined.
